Finally indulging another crush

This past Xmas eve with the kids & the X, for the 12,000th time, I watched White Christmas. Positively everything people do and say in the movie is so alien to my ordinary experience it’s like being immersed in cultural practices in Albania. But I adore it. I especially love the dancing of Vera Ellen and finally decided to imDb her and find out what else she was in (besides On the Town, another of my absolute favorite Albanian culture flix). Not much, it turns out. Her career was cut short in part due to premature aging caused by anorexia, which just made her more interesting to me. She’s frequently described as the only female peer of Astaire and Kelly—the only woman who could match both of them, move for move. So I hunted up some pix of her. Here she is with Fred Astaire (she’s the guy on the right):

And, as far as I know, this pic, which really endears her to me no end, is the only image available on the web depicting an extremely common little personal female ritual that men are generally unaware of:
